Addressing Global Warming
Environmental consideration is one of the important issues that companies should address. The SEGA SAMMY Group remains constantly aware of the environmental impacts of our business activities, complies with environmental laws and regulations, and works to reduce environmental impact and address climate change.
Decarbonization with raw green electricity
We have achieved significant energy reductions through energy-saving initiatives and the consolidation of our offices into high-environmental-performance buildings. In addition, by introducing raw green electricity generated from newly built solar power plants*—which directly contributes to the expansion of renewable energy in Japan—and utilizing non-fossil certificates for nighttime and other periods when solar power cannot be used, we effectively achieve 100% green electricity for our headquarters.
*Raw green electricity refers to green electricity that is considered to have been transmitted directly from the power plant through the general power transmission network by matching the time of generation and consumption in 30-minute increments.
Introduction of Green Power Certification System
Since April 2005, we have annually purchased 1 million kWh of green-certified electricity generated from micro-hydro and biomass technologies under a contract with Japan Natural Energy Company Limited. This is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by a total of approximately 556t-CO2.
Use of 100% Renewable Energy to Power Data Centers
We are determined to use the full potential of information technology. Since 2018, we have been progressively centralizing our data centers, which were previously dispersed among Group Companies, into data centers operated by Equinix*. Thanks to proactive environmental initiatives, Equinix has achieved a 100% renewable energy ratio at its facilities in Japan. By centralizing our systems into Equinix data centers, we have contributed to reducing the GHG emissions while also saving costs. As of May 2025, we are centralizing core systems, workflows, development environments, and other elements belonging to 26 Group Companies, including regional units, such as SEGA SAMMY GOLF ENTERTAINMENT. We will continue to expand the scope of centralization. We will also consider the increased use of cloud services operated by providers that are proactively switching to renewable energy.
*Equinix is a global digital infrastructure company. In todayʼs cloud-centric world, Equinix provides interconnection services for industry leaders in a wide variety of fields, including finance, manufacturing, mobility, transportation, government, healthcare, and education. In an effort to counter global warming, Equinix is working to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and has invested over $129 million in energy efficiency measures since 2011, leading to the avoidance of emissions equivalent to approximately 430,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide (mtCO2e). In 2019, over 90% of the energy used at the companyʼs global data centers was derived from clean, renewable sources.
Installation of Solar Panels and Storage Batteries
In December 2024, solar panels were installed on the roof of the Sammy Logistics Center and energy storage equipment was introduced on the premises. These were implemented based on the SEGA SAMMY Group’s approach to GHG emissions reduction initiative, “SEGASAMMY Colorful Carbon Zero” concept, and they supply a portion of the electricity used at the Kawagoe Factory.
