Initiatives for Products and Services
Product and Service Labeling
In the Consumer area of the Entertainment Contents Business, we label product packaging, user manuals and other tools for home video game software in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations, industry group guidelines, and internal rules. By applying clear and appropriate labels, we ensure that customers can use our products and services with confidence. We also clearly specify the range of users for each product and actively address any ethical concerns. Our products are labeled according to assessments conducted in countries around the world. In Japan, we indicate the target age group for each game based on the CERO* ratings system and label products in accordance with our own voluntary standards. By drawing on expertise accumulated through the CERO rating system and case studies, we have formulated guidelines that cover nine categories and 26 items. We are also working to improve employee awareness by circulating information about recent ethical issues relating to expressions used in products in Japan and overseas through our email newsletter.
CERO Age Rating System age classification marks
The inclusion of age classification marks and other information based on the content and expressions in computer and video games allows consumers to purchase and enjoy products with confidence. These marks are displayed on game software and other products sold in Japan for home use, with the exception of game software for commercial use.

Quality Assurance System
In the Entertainment Contents Business, our quality assurance staff work independently from other departments, such as sales and development, to strengthen our quality assurance system by centrally managing safety and quality of our products and services based on quality assurance regulations. Product safety management is a particular priority, and in addition to our own voluntary standards, we also apply guidelines established by industry organizations. In addition, we conduct design reviews involving staff from relevant areas, such as development, production, sales, and quality management. Products are assessed from four perspectives: product specifications, design specifications, mass production specifications, and mass production approval. We also conduct a product liability diagnosis using various safety management methods to assess product risk. This is followed by a final decision based on discussions at a shipment approval meeting. Only products that meet our stringent standards are released onto the market.
In the Pachislot & Pachinko Machines Business, Sammy has put in place a thorough safety management system. It has established a Quality Assurance Department as a dedicated organization in its commitment to ensuring zero major defects that would affect personal physical safety. In addition, we conduct not only in-house quality audits, but also audits of domestic and overseas cooperating factories utilizing online tools as well.
Introduction of PuyoPuyo Programming, educational materials about programming
Introduction of PuyoPuyo Programming, educational materials about programming (link to official educational site, Japanese only)
On June 26, 2020, SEGA CORPORATION and Asial Corporation began offering Puyo Puyo Programming, an educational content module that enables users to learn programming using the source code of SEGA’s action puzzle game Puyo Puyo, within Monaca Education, a programming learning environment provided by Asial. This content is available free of charge.
In this learning material, learners copy (transcribe) source code written in HTML5 and JavaScript while checking the actual game screen of Puyo Puyo, allowing them to code as they see the game in motion. For beginners, transcription helps them become familiar with coding, develop the ability to detect and correct mistakes by themselves, and gain confidence. Once completed, learners can also make simple modifications, such as changing the color of the background Puyos and increasing the number of Puyos that can be placed. Courses are available at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, making the materials suitable for a wide range of learners. As the environment runs in the cloud and is not dependent on any specific operating system, programming can be learned on existing PCs at home, educational institutions, and public facilities as long as an internet connection is available. Learners can study programming using globally recognized programming languages in the same type of development environment used by professional engineers.
In this initiative, SEGA handles the planning and production of the content as well as support for educational institutions, while Asial oversees service operations, including implementation within Monaca Education. SEGA supports programming education in elementary, junior high, and high schools, as well as universities, through this content so that classes can be conducted even without instructors proficient in programming. SEGA will also promote this initiative through its hosted eSports events.
User-Oriented Development Process
In the Pachislot & Pachinko Machines Business, we use databased market analysis and hypothesis validation during planning to identify targets and needs. We have also put in place a system for enhancing the level of perfection with a unique test-shoot evaluation system that provides more user-oriented evaluations.

Brush-Up Using Highly Unique Test-Shoot Evaluation
In pachislot & pachinko machine development, we are leveraging industry-leading human capital for development to deploy a massive 550-person scale test-shoot evaluation process. In addition, we have installed a mock hall (Parlor Sammy) that closely resembles the actual play environment, and we are working to refine our products. These efforts have led to the creation of hit titles.
