Initiatives through the SEGA SAMMY ARTS FOUNDATION
SEGA SAMMY ARTS FOUNDATION
The SEGA SAMMY ARTS FOUNDATION is a general incorporated foundation established in March 2019 with the aim of contributing to outstanding arts and traditional culture in Japan and around the world. The FOUNDATION places particular emphasis on the promotion of music, the development and dissemination of dance newly created and nurtured in Japan, and the promotion of international exchange with artists and organizations both in Japan and overseas. In the field of dance, the FOUNDATION operates Dance Base Yokohama and focuses its activities on three core areas: original project initiatives, the creation of activity hubs, and activity support programs.
Dance Base Yokohama
Dance Base Yokohama is a dance house open to people who value the local community and culture, with the aim of creating performing arts works centered on dance.
Since opening in June 2020, it has planned and operated workshops and experimental tryout performances, invited international artists and companies, and undertaken dance archive initiatives. Through these activities, Dance Base Yokohama aspires to serve as a hub for exchange not only among choreographers and dancers, but also creators from various fields, critics, researchers, production staff, and audiences.
Eri Karatsu (Executive Director and Artistic Director of Aichi Prefectural Art Theater) serves as Artistic Director. Under her leadership, the organization works to improve the overall creative environment in the fields of dance and performing arts, protect the rights of artists, dancers, and staff, and implement initiatives to expand audiences and the market.
